DASH diet for high blood pressure — and why Blood Snap is not a calorie app

DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) is a well-studied eating pattern discussed by NHLBI and many heart organizations for people dealing with high blood pressure. This page is a pointer, not a meal plan.

What DASH emphasizes

Public NHLBI summaries typically emphasize vegetables, fruits, whole grains, low-fat dairy, and limiting sodium, added sugar, and processed meat. Details and calorie levels belong in official DASH materials and a clinician or dietitian visit — not in an app that only stores BP, glucose, and weight.

Blood Snap is not a calorie counting app

A “good calorie counting app” is a different product. Blood Snap does not count calories, score a DASH day, or prescribe food. Diet logging is on the roadmap as a future idea; it is not in version 1.0.1. If you use a food diary elsewhere, you can still log blood pressure readings and blood sugar levels here.

How a diary still helps

If a clinician asked you to watch home BP while changing food or sodium, a consistent log (same cuff, same times) is the record. Export PDF for the visit. Do not treat a chart in Blood Snap as proof that DASH “worked.”

Log this in Blood Snap. Keep BP, glucose, and weight in one free diary. Use official DASH resources or a dietitian for food — not this app.

Educational information with public guideline citations. Not medical advice and not a diagnosis. Blood Snap is a personal wellness diary — not a medical device, blood pressure machine, glucometer, or CGM. Always follow your clinician's advice.

Log the numbers you just read about.
