High blood sugar, low blood sugar, and hyperglycemia

High blood sugar, high glucose levels, hyperglycemia, low blood sugar, and low glucose levels are clinical topics. This page summarizes public education language. It is not a diagnosis. Blood Snap will store the number you type; it will not label hyperglycemia in the app.

Hyperglycemia (high glucose)

Hyperglycemia means glucose above the range your clinician considers appropriate for you. Public ADA/CDC education often discusses very high values and symptoms such as thirst, frequent urination, or fatigue. Persistent high readings belong in a clinic conversation, not an app badge.

Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia)

Many diabetes education pages discuss glucose below about 70 mg/dL (3.9 mmol/L) as a common alert threshold for people on certain medicines — but your plan may differ. Symptoms can include shakiness, sweating, confusion. Follow the treatment plan your clinician gave you (for example, fast-acting carbohydrate). Seek emergency care if you cannot keep someone safe.

What to do with a home log

  • Write the number, the time, and fasting vs after eating
  • Do not wait on an app to “confirm” an emergency
  • Bring the diary to the next visit

Optional personal reminders in Blood Snap fire only when a value crosses a threshold you typed. That is not a medical alert and not a hyperglycemia diagnosis.

Log this in Blood Snap. Keep a glucose diary for your records. For urgent symptoms, use emergency services and your care plan — not the app.

Educational information with public guideline citations. Not medical advice and not a diagnosis. Blood Snap is a personal wellness diary — not a medical device, blood pressure machine, glucometer, or CGM. Always follow your clinician's advice.

Log the numbers you just read about.
